How To Make Your Own Natural Hair Gel
By creativelycc
Hair Gel From Flax Seeds
Boiled flax seeds produces a gel that will make your curly or frizzy hair manageable and shiny. Flax seeds also contain antioxidants that will protect your hair from the elements and make it stronger. I have been using this natural gel for a long time now and my hair has become healthier and stronger. This gel will save you a lot of money since only need a small amount of flax seeds to make the gel. You can alter the following recipe to make more or less gel to suit your needs.
Ingredients
1/4 cup Flax Seeds
1 cup Water
Process
Mix the flax seeds and water in a small sauce pan and bring to a boil while stirring constantly. After the flax seeds are brought to a boil, turn down heat and simmer on low heat for about 10 minutes. Stir occasionally to ensure that all of the seeds are not sticking to the bottom of the pan.
Finished Product
Continue cooking the flax seeds until the gel is the consistency you like. Let it cool awhile and then strain it through cheese cloth or even old pantie hose to remove the seeds. You can add a little essential oil to the gel for scent. Aloe vera gel can also be added for extra moisture. Keep the gel in the refrigerator since there are no preservatives used. It will stay fresh for about a week if kept in the refrigerator.
Applying To Your Hair
This gel can be used on dry hair or wet hair. Thoroughly work it through your hair and style as usual. I make and use this frequently!

Thank you Karen, I'm sure you'll like it!
Oh, this is brilliant - and a personal recommendation too - can't beat that. I have flax seeds in my fridge right now and can do this. How safe too. So many of the gel products are filled with toxic chemicals.
This is a winner - yay! And rated up!
Thank you very much BkCreative, It really does work great!
Like the information. Didn't know you could do that! A nice natural product!
You sure can and it works great. It also helps make your hair strong and keeps it from breaking too, along with holding a style!

I'm back because I am going to make this right now (this is why I bookmarked) - I have the seeds waiting and the measuring cup. Oh yay! I'm thrilled and everyone I know is waiting to hear about it. (one friend keeps nagging me)
This is so great! How can we go wrong with natural.
Oh, yay!

Hi BkCreative,
Good luck, I hope it comes out well. I have been using this for a while now and it does work good. My daughter told me that a friend of her's uses panty hose to strain the flax seeds from the gel. Let me know how it turns out. Thank you for directing people to this hub!
Great idea with the panty hose - I have knee highs waiting to be thrown out but I can use! I am very satisfied. After washing my hair, when it was almost dry (I have locs) I ran the gel through and then braided. Opening it this morning it feels good and helped the set - and no flaking.
It cooks fast and I let it get a bit thicker. I'll use this rather than all the chemical types. Plus it smelled good when I was cooking it. I mean it just has to be so nourishing for my hair knowing the awesome benefits of flax seeds.
Thanks a bunch!
Hi BkCreative,
I'm so happy you liked it. I'm sure your locks look beautiful! The flax seed gel should be very nourishing and moisturizing for your locks. You can also add aloe vera to it for added moisture or any kind of oil. Over time you'll develop your own technique for making the gel and straining it. Sometime I just skim the gel from the top of the liquid, add more water and recook the seeds. You can reuse the seeds a second time, producing more gel.
Enjoy, and thank you so very much!
Wow. I cannot wait to try this! Thanks so much. I would like to link this to my flax hubs if you have no objection. Voted up...just wish there was a way to list all the reasons why with the vote!
Thank you so much RTalloni, it really does work good. I'm going to tweak the process, so watch for the change. Through research, trial and error, I've found a better way to make and strain this.
very good,I will try
thank you dear friend
god bless you always in your life
Thank you sanpmd,
This really does make your hair beautiful!
Many blessing to you!
Are you tired of me yet?
Just yesterday a friend from out of town came to visit and pulled out her store bought hair gel that she wasn't too happy with. And I reminded her of how beautiful and soft my hair felt after using your gel recipe.
So yes indeed that is our project. And I have knee highs this time to use as the strainer.
Thanks again and again.
Carolyn
I will never get tired of you! Knees highs are the best to strain the flax seed gel with, I hope she likes it!
This sounds simple enough. Thanks for sharing, am going to get some flax seeds and try it out
It is very simple and works great, I use it a lot. Last week I added a little orange oil to it and it made my hair smell so good. Thank you for your comment Cashmere!
